We need a revolution, a quiet, bloodless revolution, of thought. We need to encourage individuals to think. To question not only what the world around them is saying, but also their own presumptions of who they are, and their place in that world. To truly harvest a planet of peace, it begins within each of us, and is lived day by day, and acted on in every action and word of every moment. Groups can only support the individual effort, it is eventually down to each of us to save the world by the way we live, second by second. No explosions or special fx, no car chase or drooling alien menace, no impressive CGI, just real life, breath by breath, quietly practicing compassion without reward, manners without gratitude. Being a nice guy or gal! Doesn’t sound like a tough job?! Yeh, right! Today's Earth is a rapidly shrinking village. In such uncertain times, through new communication media, we are bombarded with bleak images and news coming from all angles, sensational items with little seeds of fear to unsettle us, to make us feel that around every corner, harm awaits us. Don’t we need and deserve a little light to remind us that our potential for good is vastly untapped and very rarely reported?! The scales are unfairly tipped in favour of a lurking danger, but if you step back and think about it, investigate for yourself, find truth through your own efforts, the reported monster, is very often plasterboard and paint, lots of loud noise and ticker tape, fact twisted for someone’s benefit and agenda. The western, overtly masculine, idea of society has also belittled the value of a spiritual element to our existence. I get tired of anyone who wants to sing about peace, being boxed in as a ’hippy’. They are living in the past, not me. We need to reawaken the exploration of our connection and appreciation of nature, and the search of our own true source. An open minded expedition that we can share and celebrate, and which, I believe, the outcome will be a tolerant and selfless community. Currently, that view would appear boring. No bangs, no tension, no cliff hanger! Well, as far as I can see, those running the show do everything the hard way, a lot of effort for little, and make decisions that benefit the few to the detriment of the many. Time for change! So you and I must become foot soldiers in the revolution, not just for others, but for ourselves. We are part of the world we want to change, we are not separate, we are not outside, looking at the poor masses that need saving. We must first save ourselves, and in doing so, be the change, with immediate impact. How we conduct ourselves and our interactions with others will ripple out and have invisible, untold effects, as they already do, but we can contribute, consciously and with a positive intent. Music is a language that crosses barriers and brings people together, despite their differences, it can lift the listener, and get them through those moments of self doubt, and be a supportive voice through whatever difficulties they may be experiencing. This is our weapon. Through passing our strength on, in our words and melodies composed through our own beliefs, our hopes and joy intertwined in each note and arrangement. What we are within will reflect without, and that obviously goes both ways, toward selfish ends or for the good, which is why the battle is fought within ourselves, day by day. To call it a battle sounds harsh and bleak, but when you turn the light on inside yourself and find that inner core of your being where the truth of life exists, you know it isn’t about armour and sweat, but of a childlike wonder and awe, which we must work to maintain against the onslaught of exterior pressures and persuasions.
To quote myself: The revolution begins now, quietly and calmly, with slow, deep, deliberate breaths, wherever you are, you turn down the volume of all outside distractions, turn your gaze inward, and listen. What do you believe? Go find your truth tiger!!
