Taking Full Advantage of the Times We Live InAs creative people, we have been given an amazing technology in which to communicate what we do. Yes, you've heard of it - the Internet. This article can guide you in a direction where you can take advantage of this with a minimum of technical knowledge. For those who really don't want to mess around with designing web pages and uploading HTML, there are two other options: Hire someone to do it for you, or use an existing "portal" site - have MSN or Yahoo or any of the major portals set up some kind of a web site for you on their servers - for FREE. Prep Your Web Content Regardless of how you decide to proceed, you will need to generate the text, graphics, music and other content that will be included on your web site. Think about what you are trying to convey and who you are trying to convey it to. Simplicity is a very good thing. Below is a basic outline:
Remember, everything you put up on the web is public information. So as a rule, I do not put my home address or other personal information on any web page. Contact addresses are business addresses, mailboxes, etc. Hostbaby.com Here's a great option for those of us who need a full featured web site, but don't have the wherewithall to hire experts to get things to happen. The CD Sales Distributor CDBaby.com has started a web "hosting" company that can take your domain (www.yourname.com), and create a database driven web site that is full featured - without any technical knowledge. This is the option I'm recommending these days. MySpace.com Here's another good one that's free and assists in building communities of fans, showing music, etc. It won't host www.yourname.com like hostbaby.com does, but if you don't want to worry about your own domain name, then it's another good option. Hope this helps. |
