New Thought Music - The Sacred Music of Our Times

A More Positive Vision

The early New Thought movement was driven by the discovery that physical healing was possible through the power of conscious and spiritual awareness.

As that initial idea unfolded into successful application, practitioners of New Thought began to see that the power of an uplifted consciousness could also bring healing to negative circumstances and conditions in one's personal life.

As it evolves today, twenty-first century New Thought is driven by a far broader mission. Planetary healing through self-realization is emerging as the new model for our times.

At this moment in history, New Thought is having a profound influence in bringing different spiritual communities together in sharing a mutual love of the Divine - as it is expressed through each one of us.

What is New Thought Music?

New Thought Music is sacred music based upon the universal spiritual principles of oneness and unity. It is music that honors the creative force that expresses through all faiths and all people.

New Thought Music unifies and empowers. It is music that is consistent with the idea of a changeless, yet creative force that is everywhere - promoting its expression through all channels - all people - all the time.

Since it is this universal spiritual philosophy that is the common thread, virtually any style of music could be construed as New Thought. What is important is the intention encoded into the music, not the stylistic form itself. So, it is possible for us to find examples of "New Thought Music" in folk, jazz, classical and even in existing popular repertoire (Stevie Wonder, Sly Stone, James Taylor and many others).

A Creative Revolution

The New-Thought movement and teachings also seem well suited to artistic expression. It is perhaps not an accident that so many of the finest artists and musicians are drawn to its mystical, yet practical, approach toward creative expression.

We live at a time when communication reaches around the world at speeds that are virtually instantaneous. The quality of that communication is the obvious, determinant factor in what information gets absorbed, and what gets discarded.

As musicians then, we are practitioners of the most powerful and transportable communication medium in existence.

And as an extension of our spiritual communities, we follow teachings which address a critical need at this particular time in history.

NewThoughtMusic.com strongly feels that New Thought Music is a vehicle for transformation in the world today. Our purpose, therefore, is to promote and anchor music that makes a powerful contribution to our growth as individuals and as communities.

The NewThoughtMusic.com Site

The purpose of the NewThoughtMusic.com site is two fold:

1. To support the growth of music ministry in our communities
2. To promote the best of New Thought Music as an outreach function

Both are vital needs.

This site is designed to address both by providing a public presentation area - for those people who have not been introduced before; and a membership content area - for New Thought artists, musicians, music directors, choir directors, ministers and other interested parties to exchange information that assists in building music ministry in our respective spiritual communities.

The public areas will feature selected New Thought artists, a Yellow Pages for New Thought Music people, articles geared to lay people regarding New Thought Music and the concepts of music ministry, news and event calendar and other information that is more general interest in nature.

The membership areas will additionally feature community music ministries and artists, discussion forums, articles relating to the practicalities of building music ministry, a membership directory and - at some point soon - a membership file sharing service for sheet music and audio tracks. Membership also permits you to submit articles, web links, suggested feature artists, etc.

Over the next few months, we will need people from all over our community to participate as editorial boards, content editors and yet undefined assistants. We finally have a system to accomplish this in an effective, comprehensive and automated way.

We currently support the capability to provide "RSS syndication" to you. As time moves on, more and more of your news updating will be done by subscribing to information feeds. Simply copy the link from RSS 2.0 and paste into a "News Reader" program, or many of the more modern browsers. There are even ways of providing audio "Podcasts" to you in the same way. You subscribe to a Podcast in iTunes, for example, and it gets updated automatically on your computer. Very powerful.
