From the Piano Player
Thank you for your interest in my musical world.

For most of my life, I've been on a musical journey of exploration - whether that was classical organ, jazz piano, sound synthesis, music production or music improvisation. I've always tried for excellence in each of these areas, because - in a strange way - they feed each other.

During the course of my journey, I've been fortunate to work with some of the greatest musicians in the world. And I've noticed that music has a way of bringing different kinds of people together into supportive and productive relationships - even when they have vastly different world views. In the back of my mind, I keep hoping that the rest of the world could catch up to that model.

I've also been struck at how you can almost understand how people think by the way that they play. If they lean toward structure, you hear structure. If they lean towards space, you hear space. If they are insecure, they compensate by playing impressive licks. And if they are confident, they aren't concerned with what people think - and play accordingly.

These things make the musical life the most interesting thing I could ever imagine.

It encompasses the nature of creativity, the integration of people and technology, and an incredible transparency in the play of ideas. For me, it is real magic, as opposed to slight of hand. And I just can't think of anything wayer cool than that.

So I invite you to poke around and take a look at what I'm working on. If any of it interests you, I'd love to hear from you.

Peace and love,

Ben Dowling

Featured Project: The Path of Peace

My most recent release is an ambient art work called "The Path of Peace" which is a collaboration between myself and painter, Mark Wagner. It all started as experiments in surround sound with a piano, and found its way into a multimedia experience of contemplative space. If you like slow and beautiful, it's definitely worth a look.

The Path of Peace Review Excerpts:

An incredible demonstration of how two mediums can come together for a powerful meditative experience...an amazing production piece and something you will listen to and watch over and over again..."
- Tom Averna, NC Radio

"A unique event in music industry history... In a world filled with violence, tragedy and ignorance, Dowling and Wagner have found a way to be a part of the solution..."
- Vision Magazine

"...the project as a whole is phenomenal and needs to be experienced. I give The Path of Peace my highest recommendation, and hope to interview one or both artists very soon. Treat yourself and your loved ones to an extraordinary sensory experience! Wow!"
- Kathy Parsons of Solo Piano Publications ("Reviewer's Pick")

"Creating a liquidy, gentle and natural sense of flow and movement, this disc evokes deep and rich imagery, awakening the imagination and stirring the inner eye. With the same emotive and touching quality found in a piano soundtrack, The Path of Peace serves perfectly as a background for contemplative, reflective times."
- CD Baby ("Editor's Pick")

"The Path of Peace...reminds me of walking through an art museum with a very personal perspective and just the right music..."
- RJ Lannan
