Welcome

A New Day...

Back to the Source

I've been working on so many projects over the past couple of years, I basically gave up, didn't update anything, no communication, no gifting anything to the Universe, etc. In short, a bit too much about me...

Because let's face it, if you are an artist in this new environment you've got to have a higher commitment than just making the music. After all, the magic to music is the creative process, which I think is the coolest of the cool. To me, creativity is an act of generosity. It lives most powerfully in a space of generosity.

It is just too easy these days to be intimidated by the business and the technology. So you cut yourself off...

Which is not exactly what I envisioned my life to be about...Art doesn't happen for me just thinking about myself and sitting at the computer...

Sooooo...I'm making a conscious effort to change some established patterns.

I decided that it was really important to communicate to those people who have supported me all this time. And - as hard as it is for me to adjust to this - I need to start giving away the music I've worked so hard to create. No, it doesn't make "good business sense." But it's what gives me joy, and that does make good business sense!

So I got under the hood on all this tech stuff so I can make the adjustment. Because if it's painless, then I'm far more likely to make the internal changes required...

I've been real fortunate so far. The combination of a CMS site with integrations with Wordpress, Face, Space, Twit, email et al seems to be working.

Which will finally allow me to post free music, Twitter improvisations, a video blog now and then, a podcast (once I've figured that out), and discussions so we can finally have some back and forth. You know, a healthy artist/listener relationship!

So, I'm actually quite excited by this new situation, and strongly invite you to listen, watch, download and communicate. Got all different flavors of contact supported here... Facebook, Twitter, the Artist Blog, The Muse email newletter, etc. Multiple ways that we can share and grow.

Just to get the ball rolling, I have uploaded a ton of free music (the really good stuff) for you to download to your iPod. Accept it, listen to it and Be InSpired! You can find that under the Music For You menu above. You'll need to register to do that, so I can keep track of who's on the inside track. Or, if you would prefer, you can sign up for The Muse newsletter and get free music sent to you every other week. Sometimes it's easier to listen to one thing at a time.

And, if you are touched by what you hear, I invite you to purchase the CD's, DVD's and iTunes downloads. That helps keep me doing what I'm supposed to be doing.

Then let me know if you think I'm out of my mind!

Peace and love,

Ben Dowling

Ester Nicholson & Charles Holt

Production begins on next CD projects

I'm so proud of both of these artists, as they take their position as contemporary artists to the next level. With books coming out from both, they have embraced the expanded artist's role as leading lights in their communities and in the world.

The Whispers: Thankful

At #3 Billboard Gospel Chart

About three hundred years ago, I cowrote a song with Robert Palmer that was picked up by the Whispers, and then sort of disappeared from my life. Well, I guess it's back now! The Whispers did a fantastic job on the production, and I'm honored that it was selected as the single off their new, chart-busting CD. Cool, no?
